Why NARFE?

NARFE is the only national association solely dedicated to preserving and improving the health care and retirement benefits of federal workers and federal retirees.

Today, NARFE’s efforts are more important than ever as Congress and the administration consider unprecedented cuts in federal pay and benefits. Just as in the past, NARFE is leading the fight. NARFE's been doing that since 1921.

NARFE has the experience and technology that you need at this time of uncertainty for federal workers and retirees.

NARFE provides timely news and analysis of events on Capitol Hill that affect federal employees and retirees health insurance and retirement benefits.

It not only reports the news on it website, but it's proactive with nationwide campaigns and a legislative action center for sending you email letters directly to your congressional representatives or the President.

The present campaign is to combat negative public image of federal employees. That's needed at this time as Congress looks at reducing federal employment and benefits. Check the menu to learn about the NATIONAL CAMPAIGN and how to use it.

Membership in NARFE
(see MENU—NARFE HEADQUARTERS)

NARFE has two membership plans: the traditional chapter membership and the electronic chapter membership named eNARFE. Choose the plan that best suits your needs.

The Traditional Chapter

It's a good choice for retirees who want the benefits of social contacts with other members at chapter meetings along with a chance to take an active part in chapter activities.

NARFE Chapter 1162 Shawnee Mission, who sponsors this website, is a traditional chapter in the Kansas City metro area. We're the largest of NARFE chapters in the area. We have members who are federal employees and federal retirees.

Chapter 1162's beat is Johnson County located in Kansas. Our members come from cities and towns such as Overland Park, Leawood, Lenexa, Olathe, Shawnee, Shawnee Mission, Gardner, and Stillwell.

If you don't live in Johnson County, there are other traditional NARFE chapters in the metropolitan area that you should know about. Visit one of our chapter meetings and we'll help you find a chapter nearest your residence in the metro area.

The electronic chapter, eNARFE

eNARFE is a new online option for NARFE membership now being offered to current federal employees and retirees. This exclusive membership costs less than the traditional NARFE membership since there are no chapter dues -- but it provides all of the same benefits and more.

With an eNARFE membership, all communications are electronic (with the exception of NARFE magazine, which will be mailed monthly). The eNARFE website has its own blog and news reporting system for its members.

CONGRATULATIONS! You've now discovered NARFE.
